Viewing award-winning films or attending a live concert broadcasted on the radio could expand your worldviews.
“It just makes your world bigger when you get the opportunity to see things and experience. Things like BANFF Mountain Film Festival or Mountain Stage broadens your horizons and makes you a more well-rounded individual,” said Angela Jones, the director of marketing for the Marshall Artists Series.
For the final two events of their 89th season, the Marshall Artists Series is hosting the BANFF Mountain Film Festival and Mountain Stage.
The BANFF Mountain Film Festival is a one-day event on Feb. 19 where students can experience a wide variety of films. This year, the tour features “Best Day Ever,” which earned the titles of 2025 Best Film for Mountain Sports and 2025 Audience Choice Award.
“It’s just one of those things you kind of have to go and check it out, and you’re going to be hooked on it,” Jones said.
Mountain Stage is a live radio show that will be on campus Sunday, Feb. 22, giving students the opportunity to attend a live concert that has a host, guest musicians and will be recorded and broadcast on the radio.
The host for the event will be Kathy Matea, Grammy-winning country music star. The headliner for the event will be Stephen Kellogg. Other performances will include local bands from the Huntington area and a performer from Colorado.
“Mountain Stage is always fun because even if you don’t know any of the musicians or aren’t familiar, there’s a reason why they’re on Mountain Stage, and you usually walk away a fan going, ‘Wow, I’m glad I got the opportunity to see that live,’” Jones said.
Mountain Stage has reserved seating, so it is encouraged for students to get tickets sooner than later. For the BANFF Mountain Film Festival, seating will be general admission.
Students can purchase tickets by showing their MUID at the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center Box Office, which is open Monday through Friday, noon-4 p.m.
