The Marshall Artists Series is closing out the semester with a one-man Broadway comedy show and a holiday folk music concert.

“Mark Twain Tonight,” a one-man show centered around a comedic look into the life of the famous American author starring Tony Award-winning actor Richard Thomas, will show Wednesday, be on Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m. at the Joan C. Edwards Playhouse.
Angela Jones, the director of marketing and external affairs for the Marshall Artists Series, said Thomas was specifically chosen by the estate of deceased actor Hal Holbrook to put on the show.
“An interesting fact about this show is it was written and performed originally by Hal Holbrook, who is an actor who is now deceased,” Jones said. “Nobody has played ‘Mark Twain Tonight’ except for Hal Holbrook, until his estate reached out to Richard Thomas. He’s the first person ever authorized to recreate the role. We’re excited about that.”
Fans of theater and history have a lot to look forward to, Jones said.
“People can expect a fun night of theater and history,” Jones said. “A chance to immerse yourself into the life of a very famous American. It’s going to be a good way to have a good time.”
The final Marshall Artists Series show of the spring semester will be a night of folk and holiday music at the Old Crow Medicine Show’s “Holiday Hootenanny” Sunday, on Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m. at the Joan C. Edwards Playhouse.

This will be the first time the Old Crow Medicine Show band has ever done a holiday tour, where they’ll be playing both classics and new Christmas music, Jones said.
“They are a folk band very famous in the roots music community,” Jones said. “They have never had a holiday show. There’ll be a lot of Old Crow Medicine Show hits that they’re known for, but they do have a new Christmas single, and it’s going to be a festive night of music.”
Jones said students will have the opportunity to experience new Christmas music from the band they might have not heard before.
“It’s a good way to close out the semester and get ready for the holidays,” Jones said.
Student tickets for both shows are available for free at the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center Bbox Ooffice. Jones said they have seen a lot of interest, so supplies are limited with the amount of space available.
Box office hours are noon to 4 p.m. Students will need to show a student ID at the box office and at the show to use their tickets.
