Marshall Men’s and Women’s Track & Field performed well at the Virginia Tech Hokie Invitational indoor meet Friday, Jan. 24-25.
Sixteen personal bests and three season bests were recorded for the Herd over the weekend, including the current Women’s Sun Belt Track Athlete of the Week, Kylee Mastin, breaking the school record for the women’s 800-meter, recording a time of 2 minutes, 10.51 seconds, and the women’s 1000, recording a time 2:49.08.
“This weekend was another great opportunity to compete against high level competition,” Director Keith Roberts said. “Kylee Mastin and Micah Coates led the way with their school record performances. After the past two meets, we’ve moved up significantly in the Sun Belt rankings in numerous events and are showing strength in numbers. Our team is well-rounded as we had numerous personal bests and season’s bests in sprints, jumps, distance, hurdles and throws. We’re a young team, so we’re emphasizing the importance of process and execution.”
Coates had solid performances, featuring a seventh place finish in the men’s 300 with a time of 34.54.
Other notable performances at the meet featured field athlete Addison Painter in the long jump recording a third place distance of 7 02/100.
The Marshall Indoor Track & Field team’s next meet will be the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational held at the University of Louisville Friday, Jan. 31, through Saturday, Feb. 1.
