Marshall women’s basketball drops to Morgan State
Marshall University women’s basketball team lost to Morgan State 57-52 in the Cam Henderson Center Thursday evening. The Herd falls to 3-2 and the Bears improve to 3-3.
The Herd was led for the second time this week by junior forward Taylor Pearson with 13 points. Redshirt senior Khadaijia Brooks also finished the night with 13 points. Freshman guard Savannah Wheeler followed with 11 points.
Marshall started hot with a 11-1 lead, but Morgan State chipped away at that and finished the first quarter only down by two. Morgan State was able to take the lead for the first time all game just two minutes shy of the half. A freshman guard Paige Shy three-point jumper tied the match up before the half.
The Herd started with a cushioned 29-37 lead until the Bears answered back with an 11-point scoring run to take the lead.
At the end of the game, a pair of missed free throws and a pair of three-point jumpers by Marshall helped the Bears secure the win.
The Herd had 19 turnovers in the contest. Of those, Morgan State was only able to score 18 points off the turnovers.
Pearson led the team in rebounds with seven, followed by junior guard Kristen Mayo and senior forward Ashley Saintigene with five. The team had eight steals, four of which were by sophomore guard Kia Sivils.
The Herd travels to Evansville on Sunday to face the Purple Aces at 2 p.m. EST.
