MUPD responding to reports of strong-armed robbery
The Marshall University police department responded to reports of a strong-armed robbery on campus early Friday morning, the department confirmed through a spokesperson. According to police, the incident occurred near Corbly Hall and College Avenue.
MUPD said the initial report of the crime came in at 1:30 a.m. Students were notified via the campus alert system an hour later.
Authorities confirmed the suspect is still at large, as of Friday morning. The suspect fled north on foot, away from campus. He was last seen near Old Main Hall, according to police.
MUPD said that no weapon was used in the alleged robbery.
Cabell County EMS also responded to the scene to treat the victim’s wounds, but it is unclear what condition the victim is in or what injuries were sustained in the attack.
An MUPD spokesperson said that at least $200 in goods were stolen. Police also released a description of the suspect, telling students to be on the lookout for a male wearing a black jacket and a gray stocking cap.
Police advised students to be cautious when walking through the area and be vigilant. If you see any suspicious activity, Marshall police ask that you contact them immediately, or call 911.
