Presidential Investiture Schedule
As President Jerry Gilbert’s Investiture ceremony approaches on Sept. 22, Marshall University has many events planned as part of the celebration.
In addition to the Investiture, John Marshall’s birthday and Constitution Week all have events that will be a part of the calendar, as well.
The week leading up to the ceremony, these are the events that will occur:
Students Using Their Power to Engage in Reading “SUPER” — September 16 | Rec Center | 9-11 a.m.| Sponsored by the College of Education and Professional Development. According to a press release about 200 elementary, middle and high school students will be brought to campus for various reading activities.
“Thundering Serve” — September 16-17 | Buskirk Field | All Day | University-wide community service projects, sponsored by the Office of Student Affairs. From bagging ten tons of potatoes for the Facing Hunger Foodbank to being shuttled around Huntington, Marshall students will serve the Huntington community for two days.
Faculty Discussion: “Whose Sex Is It? Sex, Power and Politics” — September 19 | The Cellar Door | 7-9 p.m. | Sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts. Eight professors of different colleges will come together and speak on sex, human trafficking, history and marriage.
West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals Session — September 20 | Joan C. Edwards Playhouse | 10 a.m.-4 p.m. | According to a press release, the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals returns to Marshall University’s Huntington campus to conduct a session during which it will hear three appeals. The public is invited to attend the session and the following reception honoring the justices.
Free Health and Wellness Fair — September 21 | Student Center Plaza | 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Campus Conversation on Civil Discourse — September 21 | Shawkey Dining Room | 6-7:30 p.m. | Sponsored by the Marshall University Office of Academic Affairs.
Investiture Ceremony — September 22 | John Marshall Circle | 10:30 a.m. | The official ceremony welcoming President Gilbert to Marshall University, with a reception following.
John Marshall Birthday Cake and Kettle Corn — September 23 | Buskirk Field | 11 a.m. | Celebrate Marshall University’s namesake with cake and kettle corn, followed by the Quoits Challenge.
President’s Invitational Quoits Challenge — September 23 | Buskirk Field | 11:30 a.m. | Join President Gilbert in quoits, either watching or playing. This game was one of John Marshall’s favorites.
“Marshall Downtown” and Faculty Exhibition Closing Reception — Visual Arts Center | 5-7 p.m.
