Local restaurants remain open during winter storm

Winter storm Jonas had Huntington close to 12 inches of snow over the weekend.
The winter weather not only affected Marshall University students and the Huntington community but also many restaurants in the area.
Most restaurants in Huntington were forced to close this weekend or change normal operating hours for the safety of employees.
Mancini’s on 3rd Avenue remained open despite the weather and provided customers with a warm place to dine in.
“We had limited resources but we did the best we could and tried to get people in to work,” said Tony Mancini, owner of Mancini’s. “I even went to pick up employees myself.”
Some restaurants were only able to open their drive-thru to the public due to being short staffed on Friday and Saturday.
Wendy’s on 5th Avenue did allow customers to walk through the drive-thru in lieu of coming into the dining room.
“We normally don’t allow people to walk through the drive-thru but we wanted to accommodate Marshall students as best we could,” said Keith Marcum, manager at Wendy’s.
The weather didn’t negatively affect all restaurants in the area; Mancini said it actually helped business for his restaurant.
“The storm brought a lot of new people in to experience our restaurant and I hope they will come back,” Mancini said.
