The Huntington Museum of Art opened a new gallery called Women Working With Paper for Women’s History Month.

The gallery was featured in this month’s Macy’s Free Tuesdays event.

The pieces in the gallery are a combination of modern pieces and historical pieces.

“All of the art here is considered to be good art,” Docent Carole Garrison said. “Some of the pieces involve feminism, but some of the art is just good art by women. All of the art in this gallery is art by women.”

Photographer Skip Gebhart said he enjoyed taking pictures at the gallery.

“Thirst by Sally Gall was my favorite piece in the gallery,” Gebhart said. “As a photographer, I appreciate the difficulty of taking the photo.”

The photo itself was taken from the ceiling of the cave of a tree that has grown its roots into the water on the floor of the cave.

Artist Koo Schadler, will go to the museum Saturday for a work shop.

Docent Frances Case described Schadler’s work using the word “medieval.”

“Koo Schadler paints with medieval paint, but she paints topics of today,” Case said.

During the next Macy’s Free Tuesday, the Huntington Museum of Art will present the Bridge Gallery.

The staff at the museum selected all the pieces in this gallery.

The Macy’s Free Tuesdays event happens the fourth Tuesday of each month.
