Marshall University’s Artist Series returns for the spring semester with various events for students to look forward to.
Angela Jones, the director of marketing for the Marshall Artist Series, said the season starts with the Masters at Marshall Distinguished Speaker Series. Author Javier Zamora will speak at the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center on March 6. Jones said Marshall Provost Avinandan Mukherjee and professor Montserrat Miller will also speak during the event.
“He has a New York Times best selling book called ‘Salit,’” Jones said. “It’s actually a memoir written from his nine-year-old self or nine-year-old perspective from leaving his grandparents house in El Salvador and making the journey to the U.S.”
The next event will be the BANFF Mountain Film Festival. Jones said it would be held April 3 at 7 p.m. at the Joan C. Edwards Playhouse.
“It’s short films, and they’re all shown in one day,” Jones said. “There’s action, adventure, outdoors from all around the world, so you might see white water rafting, or extreme skiing or conservation environmental efforts. There’s a lot of different topics.”
On April 14, the Marshall Artist Series will hold a performance of the Broadway Musical “Dear Evan Hansen.”
The Marshall Artist Series will end its season with a collaboration with the Department of Theatre and Dance when they present “The SpongeBob Musical” on Wednesday, April 23. Jones said there will be other performances during that week in case students cannot make it to the Wednesday performance.
Jones said student tickets are typically sold three weeks in advance; however, sometimes this can change if the university is closed. While the tickets for Javier Zamora open on Feb. 17, both BANFF and Dear Evan Hansen will release their tickets on March 24 due to spring break.
