Deciding there needed to be a club at Marshall that honored both photographers and videographers, students created the Photo and Video club, which members said aims to gather photographers and videographers together to create multiple opportunities for both art and non-art majors. 

Ben Powell, a sophomore visual arts major who serves as president of the club, said his passion is what led him to be the president. 

“My passion for photography is like no other,” Powell said. “One of our main goals being students at Marshall is to make sure that every digital creator has equal opportunities to be successful.”

The club has roughly 20 members, and they do photo shoots, create videos and put on community events that will allow members to showcase their work to an audience. 

Zahava Erickson, a sophomore visual arts major who serves as the club’s vice president, said she believes students should join this club because it opens up multiple creative possibilities for students that have similar interests and have a passion for photography and video creating.

“The club is a combination of photographers, videographers and models,” Erickson said. “Some benefits that I have had since joining the club have been making new friends who have similar interests, getting involved, building a portfolio and getting more experience in my field.”

The Photo and Video club meets at 5:30 p.m. every Tuesday in Visual Arts Center room 311.
