Pres. Gilbert: Students must complete daily health self-checks

Dear Marshall University students,

I am writing to inform you of an additional safety measure we will be requiring of all students who will be on campus for face-to-face classes, labs and the use of university facilities. We are requiring the daily reporting of your health status through the MarshallU Healthcheck® app. For those who will be on campus, this new safety requirement and other measures are simply imperative for the protection of each member of the Marshall community.

Students who are totally remote and do not need to report to campus will not be required to complete the daily health check.

Along with wearing masks and utilizing other im- portant health and safety measures here on campus, the university is mandating that you report online whether you are feeling common symptoms of CO- VID-19. The brief, daily health check will require you to input your body temperature and symptoms into MarshallU Healthcheck®, a website developed by GuideSafe. Students who complete the health check and discover that they have symptoms of COVID-19, such as a fever, dry cough or shortness of breath, are asked to stay home and contact Marshall Health at 304-691-1100.

The MarshallU Healthcheck® site can be found at https://healthcheck.staysafetogether.org/53 and will be also available through the Marshall Univer- sity website and MyMU.

This is one more way we are tracking our students’ health and protecting the health of those around us. Marshall University’s highest priority is the safety of its students and as such has instituted sanctions for students who do not comply. The sanctions are like those for other university infractions, starting with a formal warning and leading to conduct pro- bation (which limits participation in extracurricular activities and student privileges), then probation- ary suspension, followed by suspension, and finally, expulsion.

Students who forget to do their MarshallU Health- check® will receive an e-mail reminder, but students who persistently fail to comply with the regulation will be subject to sanctions. Persistent refusal to wear a mask on campus leads to the same sanctions.

The students who will need to complete the task include those who have face-to-face classes on any Marshall University campus or center, those who live in the residence halls, and those who plan to visit campus for another reason.

Fortunately, it doesn’t take a lot of time, and there are shortcuts to the website to make this task as sim- ple as possible.

For more information about how to make it eas- ier, please visit www.marshall.edu/coronavirus/ healthcheck.

Thanks to all of you for the adjustments and efforts you’ve made to keep our campus open and as safe as possible. They are greatly appreciated.
