Tutoring Services moves to the Communications Building
Marshall University’s Tutoring Services has changed locations from Laidley Hall to the Communications Building room 211.
The Communications Building is the building connected to the side of Smith Hall. Tutoring Services has changed locations to ready Laidley Hall for decommissioning. It has also moved to be closer to where many students have classes and to get Tutoring Services some newer facilities.
Tutoring Services offers one-on-one tutoring for many of the core classes that students often have difficulty with, such as science, math, modern languages, social sciences and business classes, including economics and accounting. The only subject they don’t cover is English, where the Writing Center is available to students who need help in that area.
“We have free tutoring for Marshall students and they can just come for what they need and make an appointment,” said Jori Williams, a graduate assistant who works the desk at Tutoring Services.
Over 400 students per semester take advantage of the tutoring services, with over 2,000 individual appointments.
“It is better to use it sooner rather than later,” tutoring coordinator Patricia Gallagher said. “You might need tutoring if you aren’t understanding the chapters you are reading, you have questions you haven’t gotten answers to and if you aren’t sure how to study or take tests.”
Students can sign up for tutoring at marshall.campus.eab.com, or come in and fill out an application at the center.
Each of the 32 tutors employed are either undergraduate or graduate students at Marshall University currently. The requirements to be a tutor are a 3.0 grade point average, an A or B in whatever class they wish to tutor and an application process for the job.
Operating hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
