The second annual Alys Smith Symposium will feature a data scientist—among other women in STEM—on Thursday, Nov. 2.

The Alys Smith Symposium on Women Professionals is a panel discussion event that highlights women and the different career fields they work in. This year, the event will focus on female industry leaders in science, technology, engineering and math.

Skye Reymond, the director of data science for the U.S. Soccer Federation, will deliver the keynote address at this year’s event.

Reymond graduated from Marshall University with a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics. She obtained her master’s degree in data science from Northwestern University.

MU First Lady Alys Smith began the symposium last year, which featured Maribeth Anderson, former president of the West Virginia Oil and Gas Foundation and alumna of Marshall University.

This year’s symposium begins at 7 p.m. in the Shawkey Dining Room located on the second floor of the Memorial Student Center. Following the panel discussion, there will be a Q&A session and light refreshments for attendees.

The University’s Society of Yeager Scholars, the Office of the President and the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program are sponsoring this event.
