Marshall University’s tennis team heads to Virginia Thursday for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Atlantic Regional hosted by Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.
The tournament lasts until Sunday.
In singles play, Marshall will have four representatives compete.
Sophomore Marija Bogicevic and No. 7 seeded Rachael Morales, a junior, will compete on the first day against opponents from West Virginia University and the University of Pittsburgh.
Freshman Jackie Carr will match up against No. 6 seeded Elena Cerezo-Codina from Virginia Tech University on day two.
Derya Turhan, who earned the No. 9 seed, will wait to see her opponent, as she will play the fourth qualifier Friday.
Marshall sends two doubles squads into the tournament. The duo of Bogicevic and Anne Gulsrud begins the tournament with a match against Meili Martin and Natalie Sayer from Radford University.
Carr and Morales were seeded No. 10 and receive a bye in the first round and will play either a doubles pair from Conference USA foe Old Dominion University or Temple University.
“It’s always a good thing to be respected and get seeded,” Herd coach John Mercer said. “Now, we’ll just go play hard and hopefully win a bunch of matches.”
Following this weekend’s tournament, the Herd will return to action at the USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational from Nov. 5-8 and the College of Charleston Challenge from Nov. 6-8.
