Marshall Women’s Basketball came back from a tight Sun Belt Conference loss with a 95-54 win over Louisiana on Saturday at the Cam Henderson Center.
The win came three days after the Herd dropped a 20-point halftime lead to narrowly lose an 85-82 game against Troy.
“That was a tale of two halves,” head coach Juli Fulks said. “I thought we played really well and within ourselves in the first half and then I thought the second half they sped us up and got us to do things that maybe aren’t always to our strengths.”
Marshall built its advantage early with Troy on Wednesday, but the Trojans took over in the second half. They outscored the Herd 53-30 after the break and took the lead for good on a three-pointer in the final minute.
Senior guard Timaya Lewis-Eutsey led Marshall with 33 points and 10 assists, recording the Herd’s third double-double of the season. The performance marked her fourth 30-plus point game of the year, making her one of seven NCAA Division I players to reach that total this season. She is also the first player at Marshall to have at least 10 assists in a game since Abby Beeman in 2023-24.
Junior Ni’Kiah Chesterfield was able to put up 14 points, while Senior Meredith Maier added 12 points.
Marshall responded on Saturday with its biggest conference win of the season. The Herd held Louisiana in the third quarter and outscored the Ragin’ Cajuns 22-2. After outscoring them in all four quarters, the Herd was able to come out with the heavy win.
“I was really happy with our response,” Fulks said. “The Troy game, I thought, was just one of those games that’s a heartbreaker, and so how you come back and respond the next day really matters.”
Lewis-Eutsey once again led the way with 24 points, capping a strong week in which she averaged 28.5 points, 7.5 assists, six rebounds and four steals across the two games. Maier added 17 points, Kassie Ingram scored 15 and Peyton Ilderton finished with 12. The three of them together made up 12 of the 15 three-pointers made during the game. As of stats before the Saturday win, Marshall led the Sun Belt Conference in team three-point shooting percentage at 37 percent, with Maier leading the team with 53 made three-pointers.
Louisiana entered the game with a rebuilt roster made up of eight transfers and three freshmen. Southern Miss transfer Mikaylah Manley led the Ragin’ Cajuns by putting up 12 points with Amija Price following closely with 10 points.
Saturday’s game was also Marshall’s annual Play4Kay game, with the team wearing pink uniforms in support of breast cancer awareness. Ilderton was recently named one of 62 players selected nationally as a Kay Yow Servant Leader for the 2025-26 season.
Marshall improved to 18-6 overall and 9-3 in conference play and will travel to South Alabama (9-12, 2-9 SBC) on Wednesday, Feb. 4, to open the last month of regular season play.
“We now have seven games before the conference tournament and our goal internally is obviously we always want to win games, but we want to make sure we just get better every week so that when we show up to the conference tournament we are the best version of ourselves that we can be,” Fulks said.
