MLK Day of Service Canceled Due to Weather

The annual MLK Day of Service event was canceled on Monday, Jan. 15, due to inclement weather and a winter storm advisory for Cabell County.

The event was sponsored by the Center for African American Students, the Huntington-Cabell Branch of the NAACP and Marshall’s Intercultural Affairs department. It was intended to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through six acts of community service at designated areas in Cabell County.

The initial schedule of events featured cleaning and organizing the donation room at the AD Lewis Community Center, tending to dogs at the Huntington Cabell/Wayne Animal Shelter, organizing and sorting donations for Marshall’s Sustainability Department, assisting with building maintenance and cleaning at the Harmony House, organizing and sorting the clothing pantry at the Second Coming Family Life Church and assisting with the Lilly’s Place Donation Drive in the East Hall Lobby.

Along with the service projects, the NAACP Annual MLK Day March was canceled.
