Senior engineering student Isaac Shelem Fadiga, known by his stage name “Shelem,” is set to perform his first headlining show Saturday at the Press Club from 9-11:30 p.m.

“This will be the first time I get to perform all the songs my fans know and love, as well as some new ones I’ve been working on,” Fadiga said.

The musician said he developed a love for music after playing the clarinet in his school’s marching band from the sixth grade up until high school. He said that hip-hop has been an inspiration in the creation of his own music, as well, citing Ludacris’s “Red Light District” and Soulja Boy’s debut album as major influences.

“When I heard Soulja Boy’s first album and learned that he produced the whole album by himself, it made me realize that I could also do it myself,” Fadiga said. “So I started producing my own instrumentals.”

Fadiga described his style of music as “funky, but very hip-hop” and said he’s excited to be performing at an off-campus venue.

“I’m doing a lot of songs I haven’t gotten to perform yet because of the types of events I’ve been performing at,” he said. “Most of my songs don’t fit in the party atmosphere, and some are too vulgar to do at campus events.”

Those attending are advised to wear some comfortable shoes & drink a lot of water because “we’re jumping around all night, and singing along is a must,” Fadiga said. There will be a $5 cover charge at the door.
