Marshall Campus Activities Board starts the year with a laugh

Huntington may be a small city compared to most, but that does not mean it lacks things to do. Between all of the parks and places to eat, there is also a club that has been on the rise for some time now.

The Marshall Campus Activities Board’s sole mission is to let students know about events going on in and around campus.

“There is always something going on in Huntington, that’s what really makes this a fun place to live,” said Sydney Ankrom, a CAB member. “I’m just glad that I can help direct students where to go and when.”

With the fall semester just kicking off, Inkrom said she hopes this year’s Marshall Artist Series will be the most fun one yet.

The series boasts of having a night for all genres whether you like country concerts or indie films. Tickets went on sale at noon Wednesday for both the Maren Morris concert and the Leslie Jones stand-up performance.

Even though the two kickoff Artist Series’ performances are different as night and day, there were still many students eager to get in on the action. There are only a limited number of tickets set aside specifically for students.

“I’ve heard about the events and concerts coming up and wanted to learn more about them so it has been super helpful for the CAB people to be out on the plaza ready to answer questions about tickets and tell us where to buy them,” said Ally Perry, a Marshall student.

Ankrom said she wants to see the series grow and be able to have more events. Many of the shows have the possibility to run for more than one day; that way more people can make it out to the show.

“It’s a way to show support for these artists,” Ankrom said. “They take time out of their busy schedules to come to a small town like Huntington. If we start getting large attendance then we can start getting bigger events, artists, and comedians.”

The Marshall Artist Series, in partnership with CAB, will host its first event at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 20.
