Drinko Library stands as a student hub for learning outside of the classroom, September 12, 2016.

“Construction began the day after finals last semester,” Jody Perry, executive director of technology services, said. “We’re trying to make better use of the first-floor space.”

According to Supervisor of Operations Johnny Bradley, the construction will be focusing on study rooms on the first floor of Drinko and remodeling the alcove in the back of the library. The new study rooms on the first floor are nearly completed.

“We’ve got a few small, little things,” Bradley said. “We’re putting card swipes on them and then we’re going to put some computers in the rooms.”

Two of the new study rooms are already stocked with furniture if students wish to use them.  Soon, all features of the newly added study rooms will be completed, allowing students to fully utilize them.

The alcove in the back of Drinko is still undergoing construction. Currently, the IT Service Desk is located near the entrance of Drinko, but, once construction has been completed, the IT Service Desk will be moved to the back of the library.

“We did have some complaints of noise levels coming from where the IT Service Desk is,” Perry said. “Students that are trying to study in the open areas won’t have to listen to people helping other people with computers.”

Perry is hoping that construction on both the first floor and the alcove in Drinko will be completed within the next few weeks.
