At this point in the semester it’s easy to lose your bearings, but I always feel slightly more grounded once I remember the answer to life, the universe, and everything is 42; or at least that’s what English author Douglas Adams wants us to believe in his science fiction novel, “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.”

The first book in a series of five, “Hitchhiker’s” introduces us to the last remaining human man in the universe, Arthur Dent, who is forcibly removed off of Earth by his human disguised pal, Ford Prefect. Ford, an author for the universe’s best guide book, had been researching Earth, and decided to take Arthur with him before it was blown up to make room for an intergalactic bypass.

Arthur, who went from losing his house to losing his entire planet, must now figure out how to navigate the universe with a gang of unlikely friends.

This book is perfect for a small break to keep stress levels low. Adams’ has a brilliant comedic voice, so even if you aren’t a huge fan of sci-fi, it’ll still be an ace read.

Go grab your towel, throw out your thumb, and pick up “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” for a mostly harmless time.
